The Information and Referral Support program provides people with disabilities and their families access to disability services and support in the community. Through one to one support, individuals receive assistance accessing services to address needs such as:

Independent Skills Developmen

Independent Skills Development

Independent Living Skills Development empowers people with disabilities to use and increase their self advocacy abilities. Individuals are assisted to obtain the supports needed to develop life management skills and reach their goals.

Access to Independence

Access to Independence supports people with disabilities apply for the Ontario Disability Support Program, CPP Disability, drug benefit programs, and the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP). Individuals are supported to gain income stability and obtain disability supports.

Research & Community Development

Research and Community Development responds to the unmet needs in services identified by people with disabilities. The centre’s community development initiatives include a volunteer skills building program and the Self-Managed Attendant Services (Direct Funding).

Self-Managed Attendant Services Direct Funding

Self-Managed Attendant Services
(Direct Funding)

Different people have different needs. Direct Funding is an innovative program enabling adults with physical disabilities to become employers of their own attendants. Direct Funding is intended for individuals who are willing and able to take on the extra management responsibilities (and possible risks) of the program.

Attendants assist with routine activities of living, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, meal preparation. As an employer, the client is fully responsible for managing their own employees within a budget that is developed on an individual basis.

Peer Support

Peer Support gives people with disabilities the opportunity to share lived experiences. The program works one to one, or in a group setting.

This program aims to help:

Reduce Isolation
Build Relationships
Improve leadership Skills
Exercise Rights and Responsibilities
Problem Solve

Drop-In Peer Group

The Drop-In Peer Group give individuals with disabilities the opportunity to have discussions, play board games, and go on outings. The group is open to people with various disabilities and promotes an inclusive environment.

Diner’s Club

The Diner’s Club Peer Group meets every month at local accessible restaurants for dinner. This club gives people with disabilities a chance to share life experiences and enjoy various cuisines.

Other Services

Women’s Pre-employment Program

The Women’s Pre-employment Program launched in January 2025. The program is designed to assist women with disabilities as they work towards obtaining employment. The program will help women seek supports that address disability-specific barriers to obtaining employment, build their job search skills and network with employers in the Kingston area.

Disability Tax Credit Support Services

A service assisting individuals to complete the Federal Disability Tax Credit Application. This is a non-refundable tax credit that helps people with disabilities and their families reduce their income tax.

Free Public Internet Access

The lab is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Individuals must sign in before using a computer and there is a two-hour limit for computer use. Computers are equipped with a variety of accessibility features.

Community Lending Program

The Community Lending Program provides items such as walkers, wheelchairs, shower benches, etc to individuals in need, free of charge. Click Here for more information.

Food Sharing Program

The food sharing program offers free food to those in need. Food items include canned goods, pasta, bread, fruits and vegetables, and many other non-perishable items. Our food sharing items are replenished on a weekly basis. In addition to food items we also have clothing options available, items include coats, shoes, socks, etc.
